Griggs and Ward Lead Huskies to Split in Baseball

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV--Bloomsburg University's Michael Grigg's (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) tossed a five-hit, complete-game shutout leading the Huskies to a 9-0 win over Shepherd University and a split of a twinbill on Tuesday. In the opener, the Rams posted an 8-2 win over Bloomsburg.

Griggs, a sophomore right-hander, was making his first start of the year and did not allow a runner to reach third base in picking up his second win of the year.

Offensively, the Huskies were led by Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Msg. Bonner) who went 4-4 with four runs batted, while Rob Watlock (Plains/Coughlin) was 2-3 with three runs scored. Bloomsburg got two runs in the first when Watlock singled and Ward followed with a home run. The Huskies scored five times in the third to make it 7-0. The big hit in the inning was a two-run homer from Syril Kress (Littlestown/Littlestown), while Ward added a two-run single and Watlock and RBI single in the inning. Bloomsburg's other two runs came on a two-run double by Vinnie James (Philadelphia/Bristol) in the fifth inning.

In the opener, Collin Brown went 3-4 with three RBI to lead the Rams to an 8-2 win.

Bloomsburg, 9-28, visits Millersville on Friday at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
